Our project is to make CD which contains three or more audio tracks. We are working in teams to get the audio recorded and also we need to make promotion material like we would do if we were going to sell the CD.
In our meeting today we have determined what our target audience is. We decided to make our product for all ages to allow more people to be interested in the product. For our audio we are going to record sections from house music, the tracks will most likely be from the finals due to the music being more high quality and the musicians would sound more professional.
All of our team is going to record at the house music with the ipads. We are going to mix the audio tracks (if we decide to keep them) ourselves. We will stand in different places to see who gets the best sound quality. The recording of the house music (not finals) will be during a lunchtime and we will be mixing in the lessons that follow the house music. We may also attend the house music rehearsals to see who is going to be good in the final performances.
There have been a few jobs handed out already. Cory is doing posters, Charlotte has done the copyright issues and everyone will be recording and mixing.
On Tuesday I went to house music at lunch to record the year eights I recorded on the right side of the hall while Reece recorded on the left side. We used only Reece's recordings mainly because where I was standing too many people were passing me and talking very loudly. My recording had too many voices in of the audience.
In Wednesday's lesson our group went over the recordings from Tuesday and Wednesday's we decided which recordings we wanted to keep and what ones we wanted to delete. we chose the recordings based on sound quality and the skills of the performer
On the 25th we went over year 10s and year 11 recordings,we also have one recording of a sixth form. We have narrowed it down to two recordings for each year, we also have one recording of the sixth form. Next lesson Reece, Jak and Grace will start mixing each track we have selected. The tracks we have chosen will be moved from the iPads to the sound cloud page. We started discussing the promotional materials such as posters and adverts.
On the 3rd March we finalised what the logo would be and also we decided who would definitely do what job. Jak is making the CD case, Cory is making a magazine advert, I am making the posters, Grace is doing a press release, Reece is doing a radio advert, Charlotte is making a website and Zoe is making a TV advert. The logo we chose in our group was a graphic of a phoenix with a rainbow coloured background. We decided to go over the tracks on soundcloud next lesson so that we have better equipment and it would be easy to start mixing early if we got the tracks selected quickly. We are using this lesson mainly to get up to date on our blogs to allow us to spend more time on the tracks and the promotional material.
On the 4th of March me,Reece,Jak and Cory went through and narrowed it down to three tracks. We then went into the studio and mixed all three of the tracks with assistance from Ben. We had to make sure the balance between the instruments and the singing was just right and we also added some reverb for added effect on the piece. We used EQ mainly to alter the piece and change audio to sound nice.
On the 5th of March we were working on our blogs based on the sheet that miss gave us. We also managed last lesson to burn all three fully mixed tracks onto a CD. We would have started doing promotional media but Jak has the CD case and logo that is required on all of the other promotional media. The only problem is the Jak wasn't in the lesson so he couldn't give us the logo required.
When It comes to the copyright the tracks we recorded wouldn't have any issue due to them being covers and not direct copies of the song. If we were releasing a real CD we would probably have to ask the original artist whether it was ok to cover their song for official release. Also in the song or on the case we would have to mention the original artists name to make sure they get credit where it is due. The logo we will use must be uncopyrighted. If it does contain copyright we can ask the artist whether it is ok to use it and we would most likely have to credit the artist on the CD case, usually this would just be a very small side note on the bottom of the case art saying the artists name.
The equipment we used was mainly the ipads. We used two for each year (one on each side of the hall) and used the best recording. We used the computer in the studio to do all of our mixing. We only mixed the tracks a small amount due to them being fairly high quality already.
11th March we were just working on our learning aim A aiming to complete our blogs. We hope to be done this lesson and might move on to our promotional material.

Our Product
On the 17th of March we couldn't get into our usual computer room so we had to use the one that was in the library. In that lesson due to Cory not uploading the photos of the hall I started work on my promotional materials. I started making a poster, I added the logo that Jak had previously emailed to me and I did some work on the background but I haven't added any text on the poster yet.
On the 18th of March I am still waiting for Cory to upload the photos of the hall, I am just trying to finished learning aim A. I had to do the blog on my ipod due to blogger having an issue with mobile devices and not being able to scroll right to the bottom of the page. I would have to remove some of the work just to fit everything in.
On 19th of March I decided to just use the photos that Grace uploaded because Cory wasn't uploading the images in time for me, I also got an image of Ben's desk. This shows what equipment Ben used on house music. This also shows how the audio was balanced for each individual person rather than a set balance for everyone to go off.
Learning Aim B
On 25th March I am working on the promotional materials now, so far I have created a background containing mainly black with red, yellow/orange and blue border around it, using mainly the smudge tool to make it more interesting than just a block of colour. I also used the sharpen tool to make the background more focused. On the background I also used the burn tool to make the colours far more subtle.I have also added the logo we decided as a group (the rainbow phoenix) at the top middle, this is so it is seen first, or at least one of the first things. The first thing that would be seen would be the title. We decided as a group that we were gonna name the CD 'It's Just Music'. I have this title placed underneath the logo, so it is more centred. I then created a bar of colour for the wording to go on. I decided this bar of colour was far to bright so I made it darker and made it blend in with the border creating a some what electrical look to the poster.

This is the logo that we are using on the CD case and on the other promotional materials it is a picture we found off google images and is a rainbow pheonix.

I looked at this poster for reference. In this CD poster I really like the use of bright attractive colours. I also liked how clear it was as to what the poster was advertising. I will make the product obvious and I will add fairly bright colours to attract peoples. Although when I make my poster I wont make the colours over the top just in-case it hurts peoples eyes. I do not like the font in this poster because it is challenging to read. So I will not include unreadable font.

I liked the use of font in this poster because it clearly shows the title and you can easily read the wording. I will use easy to read font in my poster so that people can actually understand what the poster is going on about
This is the poster I made for the group project. I made all of it on Photoshop except for the phoenix logo which was chosen by our group and was found off Google images. I made sure I had the title of the CD, the price and where to get the CD from. The colours would attract people and catch their eye. The wording is easily visible and can be read easily.
Our group is just finishing off the promotional material. Some people will need more time due to their material being far more complicated such as the TV advert and the radio advert. This is because it requires video and audio editing. They would also need to find quality recording software to make the adverts high quality.
Learning Aim C
Our team was hesitant to share ideas at the start, the only people talking were Jack and Zoe and the rest of us on rare occasions. This changed after we had the realisation that we need to work together Jack immediately took a lead role insuring that the team did what they were supposed to. When it came to the actual recording of house music some people decided not to show, therefore leaving others to record. After the first day of recording everyone seemed happy to record and stick to the schedule we created. We managed to get many tracks recorded, which we then went through and decided which of three of the tracks we were going to use. The team was able to choose three tracks. Some members of the team were not in on the decision due to an absence. Overall the product turned out to be good. We managed to get three tracks successfully recorded and mixed onto the CD. As a team we utilised each others strengths, some of us could mix whilst others (like myself) had never mixed before. That left Reece and Cory to do the mixing. We then moved onto the promotional material where we all had decided on a logo and we all went and made our respective bits of media.
The actual quality of the tracks were not as high because we were only using ipads to record also we were recording the auditions rather than the finals. We decided that as a group that was the best option because we would get a larger variety of performers. As a group we worked well and managed to get 3 decent tracks burnt onto the CD. The end product was good, and sounded ok. We all managed to get our promotion materials done. When we had our meetings there was a good amount of contribution from everyone and everyone had good ideas which contributed to the end product. Even though not everyone was able to get to all the meetings, we all attended the ones we could.
