15th October 2013:
At the start of the lesson I finished off the twinkle twinkle little star by adding re verb on some of the instruments. Such as the organ. Once that was finished I started making a new nursery rhyme. I choose Mary had a little lamb since its quite easy to remember, sadly the file for some reason didn't save correctly, it wouldn't play sounds. So I'll have to redo it :(
11th November 2013:
So far in my lessons I have managed to nearly finish my power point. I have also been given the day which i am performing my power point in front of the class. I have still got to try and figure out why my nursery rhyme has no sound no matter what I do to it.
2nd December 2013:
I am still working on my power point presentation and I had to start my Mary had a little lamb again because The file i think was corrupt and wasn't working, Had no audio at all. I'm am performing the power point in from of my friends in 3 weeks.
9th December 2013:
I watched Naomi's and Demi's power points so far, this helps because I now know what I'm doing and I now have a pretty good idea of what I am going to say in front of the class. Also in that lesson I finished off my power point presentation. After that I helped Naomi with names of notes and chords such as C chord and helping her remember the note positions from last lesson.
16th December 2013:
Today I performed my presentation in front of the class telling them how to work Cubase and what I have done over this block of sequencing. I spent this whole lesson preparing and finishing the power point so it was ready for performing
This lesson I started my new project, a music piece designed for a Holiday resort. The music has to be themed to a certain country, I'm doing the theme of the Caribbean. I'm currently doing it on Cubase but my final project will be done on Reason. I'm just getting the general sounding of what my piece will be. I am not sure how to work reason but I presume that i will learn in the next few lessons.
Effectiveness of Cubase Piece-Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
The piece was effective in certain ways, such as the way all the instruments added depth to the piece and added different varies of tone. The piece demonstrates the use of reverb and equalisation. It made the piece seem more complex and varied from the usual, simple tune done on the midi keyboard. Cubase itself is a very effective piece of software enabling people to create simple pieces but it also allows people to create more complex pieces with many different types of instruments. The tone can vary and so can the pitch. There are also some limitations to the software such as you cannot be certain that you will get the exact sound you required.
Techniques Used So Far:
- Added Notes with a mouse
- Added notes by using the midi keyboard
- Changed the position of notes
- Used the mouse and keyboard to copy and paste
- Changed the pitch and velocity of notes
- Added Reverb and equalised the piece
- Used a range of instruments for effect
- Added different Pitches
Advantages
- The program allows you to mix and record original music
- You can use it for fun or on a professional basis
- You can synthesize and equalise
- You can use a midi keyboard
- You can have multiple tracks
Disadvantages
- The controls are basic
- The sounds are limited
- Some of the sounds sound unrealistic
- Can be unreliable
- You have to got through many of menus to get the sound you want
- Sometimes the sound doesn't come through, leaving the whole piece silent.
- If you lose the dongle, you cannot use the software any more, even though you payed for it.
Reverb: Is an effect where the sound is put through the amp to create a echo
Equalisation: Adjusting certain frequencies to balance out the audio track and create tonal balance
