The Music Industry

Visiting A Venue:

I visited a the Gordon Craig Theatre over the half term and asked some questions.

How do you choose who performs?
It is all based on what sells best and what is most popular among the costumers

What types of performance is the most popular?
The two most popular types of performance is comedians and pantomimes

Any form of security guards/bouncers?
Most bouncers come from the performer but The Gordon Craig has their own small team that are trained just in case anything goes bad.

What is the busiest/ quietest times of year?
Summer is the quietest due to most people being on holiday and the busiest time of year is around Christmas time

How do you decide what gets bigger advertising?
It's all based on what sells and is popular such as your question about who performs.

When do you run fire drills?
The run four times a year and only some people know about them

Do you make profit on everything?
Most things create profit except for plays which overall ends in a loss but we still run them so there is something for everyone to watch. With all things put together we end on a profit unlike some other theatres.

What is the most expensive performance to run?
The Pantomimes are the most expensive to run costing £250,000 and the cheapest is a comedian (this varies on who the comedian is) £10,000 to £12,000.

Prep:

The advantages of local venues are that you would know most of the people and you would know who is a major fan. This is due to people from the local area coming to some of your performances and if they like them they would come along and watch more performances in that venue.

Some of the disadvantages of local venues are they can be small and can only hold a limited amount of people therefore only holding a small amount of profit. Also some of the facilities might not be what you need. There might not be enough of a following gained there
